Feedback from Participants
As part of the exercise, a brief evaluation of the POE format itself was carried out. This took the form of a short questionnaire given to all participants. Feedback from the participants was very positive. Almost all participants said the process was clear and that they understood what was expected of them. Many appreciated being asked their opinions about the building (particularly in small peer groups without 'pressure' from others), having the opportunity to hear other users' views, and being able to see parts of the building they had not seen before. A number also valued the opportunity to contribute to improving the workings of the school, and to the design of future schools. One or two building users said they would have preferred to have toured the school when it was 'empty' or had the opportunity to visit other school buildings to provide a contrast. A member of the project team said that they would like to have heard users' views. Many - particularly staff - suggested they would have liked more time for discussion, and many also suggested that earlier notification and prior briefing about the exercise would have been helpful.
