6. Annual/Weekly Close times
Salmon
Section 6(1) of the Salmon Act 1986 requires that the
annual close time shall be a continuous period of not less
than 168 days and is to apply to every mode of fishing for
and taking salmon except during periods within the close
time when it is permitted to fish by rod and line. The
annual close time for the River Tweed is a continuous
period of not less than 153 days.
S.13(2) of the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries
(Protection) (Scotland) Act 1951 provides for a weekly
close time for salmon fishing. Under the provisions of SI
1988/390 (S.41) The Salmon (Weekly Close Time) (Scotland)
Regulations 1988, the weekly close time for net fishing for
salmon extends from 6pm on Friday until 6am on the
following Monday. The weekly close time for angling for
salmon is Sunday.
Brown Trout
There is no weekly close time for fishing for brown
trout. The annual close time extends from 7 October until
14 March, and applies throughout Scotland.
Arctic Charr
There are currently no close times for arctic charr.
Rainbow Trout
There are currently no close times for rainbow
trout.
Grayling
There are no close times for grayling.
Coarse Fish
There are no close times for coarse fish.

proposals for close times.
