Restocking of holdings
General principles
1. Restocking shall not commence until 21
days after disinfection of the holding.
2. Animals for restocking may only be
introduced to a holding under the following conditions-
(a) the animals shall not come from a temporary control
zone, protection zone or surveillance zone or (except in
the case of restocking a holding within a vaccination zone
following protective vaccination) vaccination zone;
(b) the Scottish Ministers have confirmed in writing to
the occupier that they are satisfied that any possible
residual disease virus can be detected in the animals on
the basis of clinical signs (for bovine animals or swine)
or laboratory investigations (for other species) following
the observation period specified in paragraph (3) below,
and that there is none; and
(c) the animals shall either-
(i) originate in and come from a holding where there
has been no confirmed case of the disease within 10km for
at least 30 days, or
(ii) have been tested with negative results in an
assay for the detection of antibodies against the disease
virus carried out on samples taken prior to restocking.
3. Introduction to a holding of animals
for restocking shall conform with the following
procedures-
(a) animals shall be introduced into all units and
buildings of the holding;
(b) no susceptible animal shall leave the holding until
all introduced animals have undergone the examination and
test in (e) below with negative results.
(c) every animal shall be subject to clinical inspection
every 3 days for the first 14 days following its
introduction;
(d) during the period from 15 to 28 days after its
introduction, each animal shall be subject to clinical
inspection once per week;
(e) not earlier than 28 days after the last
introduction, each animal shall be clinically examined and
samples tested for the presence of antibodies against the
disease virus.
Restocking of holdings outside a vaccination zone
with vaccinated animals
4. -(1) Where any vaccinated animal is to
be introduced to a holding outside a vaccination zone and
the proportion of vaccinated animals in the animals to be
introduced is 75% or greater, then not earlier than 28 days
after the last introduction of susceptible animals, the
vaccinated animals shall be randomly tested for the
detection of antibodies against non-structural
proteins.
(2) Paragraph (1) does not apply to the restocking of
holdings in a vaccination zone.
