Notes

  1. Types of employment
  2. Voluntary Work - The person does not get paid but may get expenses.

Non-open Employment - All the people doing the work task are people with learning disabilities and the workplace has been set up specifically for people with learning disabilities. The person gets an allowance rather than a wage for the work they do.

Open Employment - The person is included in a staff group that has people who don't have learning disabilities and gets the going rate for the job. There is an open market demand for the service provided or the manufactured goods produced. Posts have been or could be put out to open job adverts.

  3. Employment figures have been estimated for one local authority
  4. Care should be taken when comparing 2003 and 2004 figures. Differences between these figures can be partially accounted for by changes to guidance associated with the survey and improvements in data collection techniques as well as actual changes in the numbers known to authorities.
