1 In 1994 only Central and Dumfries & Galloway police forces did not have automatic detection facilities in operation. During 1998 and 1998, the automatic detection system in Tayside was not operational.
2 The split into automatic detection and other is estimated for Central from April 1997 to December 2000. Central and Northern included in subtotals for 2001 and 2002, but not in the breakdown into automatic detection and other categories.
3 Other offences include construction and use, driving licence, vehicle excise licence, parking, motorway traffic, seat belt and other motor vehicle offences. In 2003 includes 583 offences while using a mobile telephone.
4 The total includes 7,946 offers in Central which could not be broken down by offence type.
