5. Notes and definitions
5.1 Statistics on clients receiving housing support
through supporting people are collected by local authority
returns submitted to the Scottish Executive. 2003-04 was
the first year of this collection and the same return will
be used again to collect the data for clients supported
during 2004-05.
5.2 Additional tables may be obtained from Housing
Statistics on request.

5.3 Definitions used in tables
Duration of support:
- Permanent: Services are provided on an indefinite
basis as part of the overall objective of the support
plan.
- Medium stay: Services are provided for more than
two years and there is an expectation that the
provision will end in accordance with the objectives of
the support plan.
- Short stay: Services are provided for less than two
years and there is an expectation that the provision
will end in accordance with the objectives of the
support plan.
- Up to one month: Services are provided for a
limited period of one month in accordance with the
objectives of the support plan.
- Variable: The service will vary depending upon the
assessed needs of the person and in accordance with the
objectives of the support plan.
- Unspecified: The period of support is not
known.
Accommodation type:
- Homeless: A person without accommodation which he
or she is able to occupy legally or without risk of
violence or, if overcrowded, without danger to
health.
- Mainstream housing: The accommodation occupied by
the person is not specifically provided in response to
assessed social or medical care needs. Mainstream
Housing includes moveable homes.
- Special housing: Housing with specific physical
features to facilitate use by people with
disabilities.
- Sheltered Housing: Sheltered Housing is a form of
Housing with Support, however it is sufficiently
distinguished from other supported accommodation to
merit a separate category.
- Supported accommodation: Accommodation with staff
support available.
- Accommodation linked support:
- Support services specifically linked to identified
accommodation.
- Floating support:
- Support services provided to an individual
irrespective of location, tenure or accommodation
type.
