Children's Oral Health

I am totally opposed to the proposal to put artificial fluoride in Scotland's largest water supplies. It would be mass medication, an infringement of personal liberty and contrary to the Patients' Charter item 5.

It is ethically unacceptable not to be able to control the dose. Water fluoridation would also put the nation's general health at risk.

Measures to reduce the consumption of sugar - particularly in fizzy drinks - should be introduced; better diet and good teeth cleaning practices should be promoted and dentistry should be easily available to all children, plus free supplies of toothpaste and toothbrushes.

Children's Oral Health

I am opposed to the proposal to fluoridate Scotland's largest water supplies, which would be a denial of the human right to choose.

Artificial fluoride is a toxic waste product and has shown to be harmful to health and to damage children's teeth. The York Review found 48% of the children had fluorosis, 12.5% being 'aesthetically unacceptable'.

I would like the Scottish Parliament to help parents to give their children better diets and in particular to discourage the consumption of fizzy drinks and other sugary products. Regular teeth cleaning should be actively encouraged and all children should have easy free access to a dentist and be supplied with toothpaste and toothbrushes.
