ENTERPRISE IN EDUCATION: SME SURVEY

APPENDIX TWO: CLASSIFICATION

Figure A.2.1: Q27. Number of employees in organisation

Base: all respondents (n= 498)

bar chart

The non-participating sample broadly matches the general Scottish business population of SMEs - defined as businesses with less than 250 employees. Within the context of SMEs the participating sample by comparison is heavily weighted towards the larger sized firms, and indeed the latter are perhaps even slightly under represented here, as some of the national companies involved were removed from the initial sample.

Figure A.2.2: Q28. Sector or type of business involved in

Base: all respondents (n= 498)

Differences between the two sets of sub-sample are less in evidence in terms of sector, although the figures suggest that there is a weighting towards the service sector.

The original non-participating sample was selected to be representative of the SME population, and the participating sample lists provided covered most regions of Scotland.
