Ross Finnie briefed Agricultural Journalists on cases so far, and management of the disease. Meeting with Institute of Auctioneers and Appraisers held in Pentland House - explained all markets that are to be used as collection centres must be disinfected initially and then after each batch of animals and will be subject to 21 day movement controls. Wider advice issued to Local Authorities and other stakeholders on access to the countryside and posted on the SE FMD website. SEERAD produced guidance issued to Directors of Education on the implications of foot and mouth disease for schools. Vets complete risk assessment on disposal of blood and guts from abattoirs - blood products will be licenced to move in leak-proof containers for sub-soil injection on non-livestock land or for rendering. Solid waste including gut contents must go to landfill. Skins/hides once treated can go to normal outlets including export.
