INFORMATION ABOUT CHILD, YOUNG AND VULNERABLE ADULT WITNESSES TO INFORM DECISION-MAKING IN THE LEGAL PROCESS GOOD PRACTICE GUIDANCE

PROMPTS

16 None of the prompts are mandatory. However, it is recommended that as a minimum the witness list includes:

  • witness age and date of birth
  • 2 full address types (if available or applicable)

17 Where the witness is a child, young person or a vulnerable adult, it is also recommended that, where known, the following information should be recorded in the Further Enquiry/Remarks section:

  • Whether the adult witness appears to be vulnerable 2
  • Whether the child, young person or vulnerable adult witness is a victim
  • Home situation/social work or carer arrangements
  • Details of the responsible person
  • Relationship of witness to offender
  • Interpretation and translation needs including specification of language
  • Additional/special needs
  • How the witness feels about going to court
  • Whether it seems likely witness will need special measures including an appropriate adult or a supporter.
