ANNEX 2 : LEVELS OF FINES AND PRISON ALTERNATIVES
(FOR GENERAL REFERENCE, SEE CHAPTER 1, PARAGRAPHS 1.10-1.14 OF THESE STANDARDS)
The current periods of imprisonment which may be imposed in Scotland for default in payment of fines are as indicated below.
| Level of Fine | Maximum Period of Imprisonment |
| Up to £200 | 7 days |
| Exceeding £200 up to £500 | 14 days |
| Exceeding £500 up to £1,000 | 28 days |
| Exceeding £1,000 up to £2,500 | 45 days |
| Exceeding £2,500 up to £5,000 | 3 months |
| Exceeding £5,000 up to £10,000 | 6 months |

The above figures are subject to revision from time to time.
The standard scale of fines for offences triable only summarily known as "the standard scale" is shown below. Section 225(2) of the Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 1995 refers

The maximum periods of imprisonment which can be imposed are:
60 days in District Court
3 months in Sheriff Court
