APPENDIX 2 : INFORMATION LEAFLET TO OFFENDERS

1.Nature of Community Service

a.Order of court used instead of custody.

b.Any offence committed by the offender either during or within 3 months of the completion of the order against any placement attended during the course of the order will be dealt with by the court in the light of the offence arising from a Community Service Order.

c.Supervision is firm fail to comply, rapid return to court.

d.Order to be completed within 12 months: carry out work when required to do so.

e.Time work is to be done: 2 hours (minimum) per week.

f.Types and range or work available and settings.

2.Expenses, Meals, Travel

a.The conditions related to the payment of travel expenses to and from placement.

b.Offender's responsibility to get to and from placement.

c.Meals part of Community Service for accreditation of hours.

d.Travel to and from work in excess of 1 hour per day will be credited.

3.Supervision

a.Is strict.

b.Health and Safety requirements must be followed.

c.No attendance under influence of alcohol/drugs/solvents permitted.

d.Work performance must be good effort and attitude.

e.Notify Community Service Officer of further offence/court appearance.

4.Conditions of Order

a.Must attend work as required and do such work as required.

b.Absence from work must tell Community Service Officer immediately you are aware you can't attend.

c.absence due to illness:

- must tell Community Service Officer as soon as possible;

- must produce medical certificate from doctor within 7 days. Fees refunded. No self certified certificate.

d.Must be punctual and report to Community Service Officer when required.

e.Must inform Community Service Officer without delay of change of address or employment/work hours.

fMust do work satisfactorily.

5.Review of Order

Community Service Officer and offender have right to ask court to review order 'if in the interests of justice'.

6.Help and Advice

If, during course of order, have domestic or personal problems which may interfere with doing order, please inform Community Service Officer who will be willing to offer help.

7.Disciplinary Procedures and Breach

a.Explain disciplinary procedures.
