The following timetable represents the key stages in the Consultation exercise on the 'Best Value in the Wider Public Sector' Draft Guidance:

Best Value in the Wider Public Sector - Draft Guidance Issued

16 September 2003

Best Value in the Wider Public Sector Seminar for Accountable Officers

28 November 2003

Deadline for Consultation Responses

March/ April 2004

Evaluation of Responses to Consultation on Best Value in the Wider Public Sector

The main sections of this report are structured as follows:

Section 2 details further information about the responses that were received as part of the Consultation exercise.

Section 3 provides an analysis of the response to Question 1 of the Consultation exercise:

  • Does the Draft Guidance help to clarify for Accountable Officers what is required of them under the Duty of Best Value?

Section 4 provides an analysis of the response to Question 2 of the Consultation exercise:

  • What types of ongoing support to allow exchange of learning, good practice and networking would consultees envisage as being most helpful?

Section 5 of the report analyses the responses received from a number of special interest groups. These responses represent a wider stakeholder community who have expressed a high level of interest in the rollout of Best Value across the wider public sector.
