Background
In January 2004, a Working Group was set up with
representatives from the NHS, local authorities, carer
organisations, carers and the Executive. Regular meetings
took place between January and June 2004 and draft guidance
was drawn up in which minimum requirements for carer
information strategies were set out.
The draft guidance was then sent out to NHS Board chief
executives, local authority chief executives and directors
of social work, professional bodies, voluntary
organisations and other representative organisations.
Copies were also sent in response to requests from
individuals and organisations.
The final guidance will be issued in Spring 2005 and the
strategies should be submitted to the Executive for
Ministerial approval towards the end of 2005.
