Road Accidents Scotland 2003
ERRORS IN THE PREVIOUS EDITION
We apologise for the following errors, which we subsequently found in the statistics published in the previous edition:
Table 5(b), page 55: The accident rates for "all minor roads" and "all roads" were wrongly calculated due to an error in the spreadsheet used. This has now been rectified and the latest version of the table shows correct rates, which were calculated using the Department for Transport's revised estimate of traffic volumes.
Annex F, page 194: The 'Unknown' category for the pedestrian direction variable should have been labelled as 'Not pedestrian' and the number of 'Unknowns' should have been shown as 39.
We regret any problems or inconveniences caused by these errors.
As mentioned in the Introduction, the statistics given here for 2002 and earlier years may differ slightly from the previously published figures for those years, due to (e.g.) Police Forces submitting late returns, and revisions to returns which had been made earlier. However, such changes are not regarded as "corrections" to "errors" in the previous edition, because the tables and charts in the previous edition had been prepared correctly from the underlying data as they stood at that time.
