STANDARDS AND GUIDANCE

FOREWORD BY THE DEPUTY MINISTER FOR COMMUNITIES

Johann Lamont PhotoJOHANN LAMONTJOHANN LAMONTEvidence shows that care and repair services already make positive contributions to our community care policy and independent living in Scotland.

The Housing Improvement Task Force report in 2003 made several recommendations regarding care and repair services, including the development of national standards for core services. The Scottish Executive subsequently established the Care and Repair Working Group to take

forward the development of these standards , so that these core services and standards should be uniform irrespective of where you live in Scotland. The Scottish Executive subsequently established the Care and Repair Working Group to take forward the development of these so that all care and repair type services provided across Scotland operate to the same high standards.

In developing these national core service standards and guidance, we consulted with widely with stakeholders to ensure that a coherent and strategic approach was adopted throughout. By The result is a comprehensive reference and guidance tool which partnershippromotes partnership working at both national and local level. we can focus on the individuals needs and work to help improve their health and lifestyle while allowing them people to remain within their own home and community for as long as possible. Local partners and agencies involved in providing care and repair type services must therefore be able to offer these core services to a and meet minimum standards if we are to continue to improve home owners' standards of housing, health and involvement in the community. By focusing on the individuals needs, working together and applying these standards we will help people remain within their own home for as long as possible.

Many projects already meet, and often exceed, the level of service detailed in this guidance and by implementing these standards and guidance we can make another step towards to improving services for older and vulnerable people across Scotland.
