2. Increase in other subsidies is the result of the introduction of the new Less-Favoured Areas
Support Scheme which was worth 61m in 2001. This replaces Hill Livestock Compensatory Allowances for cattle and sheep which were paid on headage basis and therefore considered as direct subsidies and included under agriculture activities.Chart 3.5: Total Income from Farming and Direct Subsidies, 1994 - 2003
