Notes:
1. Number of Registered Places - The number of places registered with the Care Commission on census night March 2004 in homes for older people.
2. Occupied, Vacant, Unavailable - The number of places occupied, vacant or unavailable in care homes on census night. Places can be unavailable due to redecoration, building works, flooding, reduced staffing, redesignation of double rooms to single rooms and other reasons.
3. Total - The total number of occupied, vacant and unavailable places.
4. (%) Occupancy Rate - The occupancy rate is the percentage of places in care homes that are either occupied or unavailable. The overall Scotland occupancy rate for March 2004 is 91.7 per cent.
5. (%) Change during 6 months to March 2004 - This is the change in occupancy rate for each local authority between September 2003 and March 2004. For Scotland overall the occupancy level fell by 1.2%.
