Business in the Parliament Conference 2004: Response of the Scottish Executive to the Main Issues Raised
INTRODUCTION
1. The Partnership Agreement 1 commits the Scottish Executive to "to bring together Scotland's business and Scotland's politicians to develop ideas and maximise the drivers for growth". To help achieve this, the Scottish Executive and the Scottish Parliament worked in partnership to host the Business in the Parliament Conference 2 on 22 nd and 23 rd April 2004. The main aim of the Conference was to engage the business community in continuing to grow Scotland's economy, focussing on the key themes of A Smart, Successful Scotland.
2. There are a number of follow-up actions 3 that will enable the Executive to demonstrate the outcomes from the 2004 event. These include the production of a written response by the Executive to the main issues raised at the Conference.
3. This report documents the main issues raised and sets out the Scottish Executive's policy position on each. The outcomes of the Conference will be debated in Parliament in September 2004, and this response will be used as a benchmark for tracking progress in 2005. Any questions on this document or on the Conference can be directed to businessintheparliament@scotland.gov.uk
