The Framework for Economic Development in Scotland

The Executive's strategic approach to economic development is presented in two documents:

  • TheFramework for Economic Development in Scotland (FEDS): this is the main document which sets out the key elements of the strategic approach in the primary areas of Executive responsibility;
  • Background Analysis for FEDS: this second document sets out in greater detail the underlying thinking of the strategic approach. It also provides discussion of the nature of the economic challenge that faces Scotland and of the progress that has been made in recent years since the inception of the first FEDS. It is published online and available at www.scotland.gov.uk/library5/government/bafeds-00.asp.

These documents reflect the conclusions of the work to revisit and refresh the original Framework for Economic Development in Scotland, including a range of detailed discussions with experts outwith the Executive in the business and academic communities and covering the full range of factors critical to the progress of the Scottish economy.
