Scottish Executive Publications List 2003

General Information and How to Obtain Publications

The Scottish Executive Publications List is produced annually. This issue lists every publication authored by the Core Departments of the Scottish Executive in 2003 which was received by the Scottish Executive Information and Library Service (SEILS).

COVERAGE

1. This list includes publications from the core Scottish Executive Departments which were in 2003:

Corporate Services (CS)
Legal and Parliamentary Services (LPS)
Office of the Permanent Secretary (OPS)
Scottish Executive Development Department (SEDD)
Scottish Executive Education Department (SEED)
Scottish Executive Enterprise Transport and Lifelong Learning Department (SEETLLD)
Scottish Executive Environment and Rural Affairs Department (SEERAD)
Scottish Executive Finance and Central Services Department (SEFCSD)
Scottish Executive Health Department (SEHD)
Scottish Executive Justice Department (SEJD)

2. Many publications are produced by the following two areas of the Scottish Executive. For convenience they are, therefore, listed separately rather than under their parent Department.

(1) Office of the Permanent Secretary - Social Research

(2) Scottish Executive Finance and Central Services Department - Media & Communications Group

3. The List does not include all "SE series" papers, i.e. documents laid before the Scottish Parliament. It includes only those authored by the core Scottish Executive Departments. Where documents are part of the "SE series" this is indicated. Parliamentary publications such as Acts, Bills, and Statutory Instruments, which are published by The Stationery Office, are not included. This statutory material is available on the Office of the Queen's Printer for Scotland web site http://www.oqps.gov.uk. Please note that in this edition Consultation papers and Circulars are listed in their own separate sections although the Title Index and Subject Index provide access to all the publications listed.

4. The List does not include publications of the Scotland Office (Department of Constitutional Affairs). It does not include publications of the Executive Agencies and Associated Departments of the Scottish Executive nor of the Non Departmental Public Bodies sponsored by the Scottish Executive. These bodies generally produce their own publication lists and make publications available on their own web sites. Their web sites and where available, electronic versions of their publications can be located using http://www.ukonline.gov.uk/. 5. The List does not include publications of the following parts of the Scottish Administration:

(a) Associated non ministerial Departments:
General Register Office Scotland (GROS)
National Archives of Scotland (NAS)
Registers of Scotland Executive Agency (RoS)

(b) The Scottish Executive Department which is the province of the Law Officers:
Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS)

UKOP RECORDS AND LEGAL DEPOSIT

6. A complete bibliographic record of United Kingdom Official Publications (UKOP) is maintained on behalf of the UK Government by The Stationery Office Limited (TSO) website is http://www.ukop.co.uk This database includes items published by Departments of the UK Government and by the Devolved administrations. UKOP is the authoritative official online catalogue of the output of government, spanning 20 years of government information. The database is updated daily and, in order to ensure its completeness, all Departments are required to provide copies of each title or document issued whether published or distributed by themselves or by a commercial publisher.

7. Legal Deposit: There is a legal obligation on all publishing bodies to deposit copies of all their print publications with the Copyright Libraries. The Scottish Executive Information and Library Service facilitates this process for the Scottish Executive. Executive Agencies of the Scottish Executive have their own legal deposit arrangements.

HOW TO OBTAIN PRINT COPIES OF PUBLICATIONS

8. The table below shows how to obtain printed copies of the various categories of Scottish Executive publication.

9. Publications available from The Stationery Office Bookshop

As the Scottish Executive's publication sales and distribution agent The Stationery Office (TSO) Bookshop, Edinburgh, is responsible for selling priced and distributing free publications listed in this publication except for circulars and consultation papers

The majority of core Scottish Executive publications are issued free of charge. Free Scottish Executive publications may be ordered from The Stationery Office Bookshop in the same way as priced publications.

All core Scottish Executive publications, both free and priced, (except for consultation papers and circulars) are available from TSO Bookshop and anyone seeking a copy of a Scottish Executive publication should contact the Bookshop in the first instance.

11. Publications Issued Only In Electronic Format

Some publications are only made available on the Internet or rarely, as CD-ROMs or diskettes. Contact Colin Jardine / Harry Wright (see above) if you have difficulty accessing these publications.

12. Publications in Electronic Format

All core Scottish Executive publications are available on the Internet in both html and pdf formats. Visit our web site at http://www.scotland.gov.uk/publications/. This site is full of information regarding government in Scotland as well as containing full text copies of virtually all the publications listed in the Scottish Executive Publications List. In this List where possible, URLs are given for the electronic version of the publication. Please note that all URL addresses were correct at the time of publication.
