Many of the support schemes listed in this Guide will be affected by the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy, agreed by the EU in 2003. The main direct support schemes will operate largely as normal in 2004 and will be replaced from 1 January 2005 with a new Single Farm Payment (SFP) Scheme. Further information on the SFP scheme is available on the Scottish Executive's website under CAP reform at www.scotland.gov.uk/agriculture. Most subsidy and grant schemes are subject to specific closing dates for receipt of claims or applications. It is in your own interests to apply in good time. For many grants, written approval is needed before the work is begun. Further copies of this publication can be obtained by contacting the General Agricultural Policy Branch on 0131 244 6371.
