TACKLING REGENERATION IN A RURAL COASTAL AREA - THE EYEMOUTH EAST BERWICKSHIRE PARTNERSHIP
The Eyemouth East Berwickshire Partnership (EEBP) grew out of a series of redevelopment actions, led by Scottish Borders Council and Scottish Enterprise Borders, which began the regeneration of this small but significant coastal strip.
The EEBP is a partnership of public sector bodies with the local community and industry whose aim is the re-building of capacity and confidence.
The fishing industry is still the mainstay of the local economy although there is increasing reliance on tourism and the service sectors.
The Partnership is widely representative of the community and works closely with all of the main agencies that are active in the area - the Council, Enterprise Company, Area Tourist Board - and through its strategy and action plans, has links to environmental agencies and projects.
The EEBP has been successful in attracting EU funding (South of Scotland European Partnership Objective 2 Programme and the European Regional Development Fund) including support for local community grant schemes for small-scale community, infrastructure and business projects.
