Perth and Kinross coastal nature reserve

Declared in 1996, the Inner Tay Estuary Local Nature Reserve is 1,200 hectares of foreshore and adjacent land at the boundary of Perth and Kinross and Dundee. Important as a feeding site for passage and wintering redshank and other waders, with large numbers of greylag and pink-footed goose roosting in winter, the Reserve has many diverse habitats and interesting plant communities.

The area is well used by the public and highly valued by the local community. The economic activity is a shadow of its former self, but there is potential for the development of small-scale tourism.

One of the challenges of the Reserve is to integrate access with the wishes of the local community and the needs of conservation to allow the wider public enjoyment of this outstanding area of countryside. Perth and Kinross Council is currently renewing its management plan for the Reserve.
