6 Preferred or intended uses

6.1 Planning authorities were asked to indicate up to three preferred or intended uses for the sites as defined in the most recent local plan or other approved local authority planning policy documents. The distribution of the primary preference is shown in Table 11.

6.2 The most popular preferred or intended future uses for derelict land, where known, were other general industry (19 per cent), residential (12 per cent) and recreation and leisure (11 per cent). For urban vacant land, these were residential use (39 per cent), manufacturing (17 per cent) and other general industry (15 per cent). Primary preferred or intended future uses are shown in Chart 5.
