The analysis project was commissioned by the National Resource Centre for Ethnic Minority Health (NRCEMH) which is part of NHS Health Scotland and the Commission for Race Equality (CRE).

INDEPENDENT CONSULTANTS

Neelam Bakshi

Project Lead Consultant

Neelam is lead consultant with NB Associates, working in organisational and personal change. She has over 20 years experience in diversity and equality, specialising in race and gender. Neelam was a local government officer and councillor, and she also has experience in the voluntary and health sectors. She is a lay member of Employment Tribunals, a member of the Equal Opportunities Commission Scotland Advisory Group, and in April 2003, was appointed to the Board of NHS Health Scotland.

Christopher Homfray Independent Consultant

For the past two years, Christopher has been working as an independent consultant in the health field, largely in the field of race equality and organisational change. He has led public consultations and managed funding applications with black/minority ethnic communities. Christopher has worked in government and in marketing and communications. In July 2003 he returned to full-time employment in the Greater Glasgow Health Board.

Neena Mahal Independent Consultant

With a background in education, Neena has experience as a race equality officer and careers adviser. Specialising in policy development, black/minority ethnic issues including community consultation and capacity building, she has designed and delivered training; including Paisley University accredited modules for black staff. She has been involved in voluntary work for a number of years and is currently a Trustee of the BBC Children in Need Appeal. She is an associate of NB Associates.

Dr Takmil Uzzaman Independent Consultant

A qualified physician, Takmil has a background in public health and health services management. He has worked as a consultant to the World Health Organisation and the Directorate of Health Services in Bangladesh. For the past one and half years, he has been working as an independent consultant with the Greater Glasgow Primary Care NHS Trust on health issues of black/minority ethnic communities.
