The Slaughter Premium Scheme

The Scheme was introduced in 2000 to give direct support to cattle producers. Animals eligible for the slaughter premium are bulls, steers, cows and heifers slaughtered from the age of eight months. There is also a separate element of the Scheme known as the Veal Calf Slaughter Premium Scheme (VCSPS) for animals slaughtered at more than one and less than seven months old.
