SCOTTISH TRANSPORT STATISTICS No 22 - 2003 Edition

NEW AND REVISED TABLES AND CHARTS

This note describes the main changes which have been made to the tables and charts in this edition of "Scottish Transport Statistics", in order to provide additional information. It does not mention changes to the statistics which are presented in the tables and charts, for example following the introduction of new methods of collecting the data: such changes are described in the relevant Chapters.

New tables

Tables which have been revised, for example to provide additional information

  • Summary section - several of the charts have been replaced by the "Historical Series" charts on similar topics, in order to show the longer-term trends
  • Summary section - the tables and charts showing the traffic figures have been expanded to show DfT's new estimates of the total volume of traffic for Scotland, including the estimated total volume of traffic on all roads for 1993 onwards
  • Tables 1.1 and 1.2 have been expanded to give the numbers of new registrations and the numbers of vehicles licensed by body type
  • Table 1.4 has been expanded to provide the number of private hire licences
  • Table 1.10 provides less information than in previous years
  • Table 1.12 identifies more reasons for failing MOT tests
  • Tables 1.16 and 1.18 have been expanded to show a time series
  • Table 1.18 now gives the percentage with two or more cars
  • Tables 5.3 and 5.4 no longer provide figures for surface areas
  • Table 5.5 has been expanded to show the percentages of the motorway and dual carriageway trunk road networks that require close monitoring
  • Table 6.1 now provides estimates of minor road traffic volumes for the years from 1993 to 1997, for the first time ever
  • Table 6.2 is an expanded version of the former Table 6.3. It provides extra breakdowns of the figures for "minor roads" and "all roads"
  • Table 6.3 is an expanded version of the former Table 6.2. It provides time-series of traffic by vehicle type for minor roads and for all roads, for the first time ever
  • Tables 6.4 (a) has been expanded to provide figures for minor roads and for all roads for each local authority, for the first time ever
  • Tables 6.1, 6.2 and 6.4 (a) and (b) have also been revised following DfT's change to the use of an "urban / rural" classification for the traffic estimates
  • Table 8.9 which provides figures for the Glasgow Subway, has been expanded to show both total revenue and passenger receipts
  • Table 10.13 has been extended to show the number of passengers on the ferry service between Rosyth and Zeebrugge
  • Tables 12.7, 12.8, 12.9, 12.13, 12.14 and 12.15 have been expanded to provide time-series and, in most cases, other some extra information
