National Dossier on Education and Training in Scotland: Summary 2003

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the 2003 edition of the National Dossier on Education and Training in Scotland - Summary.

This short summary guide to all sectors of education and training in Scotland is published annually by the Scottish Executive Education Department (SEED), in close cooperation with the Eurydice network for information on European education and training systems. This year's publication has also involved close cooperation with the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training ( CEDEFOP) and the European Training Foundation ( ETF).

The information contained in this document is based on the more comprehensive National Dossier on Education & Training in Scotland. The National Dossier, which is also published annually by SEED, follows wide consultation with policy divisions in the Scottish Executive, especially those in the Scottish Executive Education Department and the Scottish Executive Enterprise and Lifelong Learning Department, and with HM Inspectorate of Education.

This summary document, and the above-mentioned National Dossier, are part of a wider European database on education and training systems. This database is called Eurybase and is updated annually by all thirty countries of the Eurydice network. The network comprises European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and EU applicant countries, with each country's description following the same format and layout conventions for ease of comparison across countries. Eurybase can be consulted on the Eurydice web site at http://www.eurydice.org under the Eurybase menu.

There are no copyright restrictions on this document and we encourage organisations to photocopy the material freely, with due citation of the source. We would also welcome any comments on the content and/or design of the document.

We hope that you find the 2003 edition of the National Dossier on Education and Training in Scotland - Summary both helpful and informative.
