1 Figures may not sum due to rounding
2 Figures for Aberdeen City, City of Edinburgh, Moray, North Ayrshire and the Scottish Borders are not included, as they did not participate in the 2002 survey.
3 The figures for Highland are new sites identified since 1993, when the previous survey was completed.

9.2 Table 17 shows new sites identified since the previous survey. In the majority of cases, this refers to new sites identified since the 2001 survey, but Highland figures refer to new sites identified since the 1993 survey. There were 932 hectares (133 sites) of newly identified derelict land since the previous survey. Of these, 723 hectares (32 sites) were in Highland and 40 hectares (1 site) were in West Lothian. There were 210 hectares (203 sites) of newly identified vacant land since the previous survey. Of these, 58 hectares (68 sites) were in Highland and 24 hectares (5 sites) were in East Dunbartonshire. Excluding Highland, the area of new vacant and derelict sites was 442 hectares. Note that these figures relate only to completely new sites identified: sites listed in the previous survey which increased in size are not included in Table 17. Such enlargement of individual sites will account for part of any change in the amount of vacant and derelict land recorded in different years, shown in Table 2 and Table 4.
