COMMUNITY REGENERATION STATEMENT: IMPLEMENTATION OF ACTION PLAN
COMMUNITY REGENERATION: MAKING THE CONNECTIONS
8. This paper focuses on the specific action points of the Community Regeneration Statement, providing further information about what we have done to implement them since the publication of the Statement and the further steps we intend to take. While it is essential that we deliver on each of the action points, these are only stepping-stones to the ultimate objective of improving the quality of life of people in deprived communities. In taking forward each action point, we must not lose sight of this bigger picture. Transforming the lives of people in Scotland's deprived communities is a formidable undertaking which will require changes, at all levels, in the development of policies, the shaping of services, the allocation of resources and in organisational cultures and ways of working.
9. The Executive's budget for 2003-6 included commitments to closing the opportunity gap across its key priorities and linked these to specific targets. http://www.scotland.gov.uk/library5/finance/ctog.pdf This demonstrates that the achievement of social justice is the responsibility, not just of agencies focusing on regeneration, but of all mainstream service providers - education services, the Health Service, the police - nationally, at local authority level and locally.
