DETERMINED TO SUCCEED: A Review of Enterprise in Education

4. CONCLUSIONS

The effective implementation of these recommendations can help bring about the cultural change needed in schools - and throughout Scotland. Young people must develop a determination to succeed. Skills, confidence and flexibility are vital to our future. Scotland's potential will only be achieved if we develop the entrepreneurial skills of our young people.

The impact of the recommendations over the next three to five years will be to:

  • raise the profile and importance of Enterprise in Education in both business and education communities and increase active involvement
  • increase resources to schools to deliver programmes in Enterprise in Education
  • establish improved national and local partnerships in particular developing stronger partnerships between individual schools and local businesses
  • increase relevant knowledge, understanding and skills at all levels of the teaching profession, creating a new enterprise ethos in our schools
  • provide a revised, coherent national framework and guidance for both schools and businesses
  • expand opportunities for young people to experience entrepreneurial activities and increase their knowledge and understanding of entrepreneurship
  • improve work experience opportunities by revising current approaches, taking account of part-time working
  • increase opportunities for vocational college and work-based learning.

Our longer term objectives are:

  • greater new business start-up, growth and employment
  • the development of a pro-enterprise culture.

Our young people are crucial to Scotland's success. We must invest in their future. Together, we are determined to succeed.
