Dear Sir or Madam
THE SCHOOL CROSSING PATROL SIGN (SCOTLAND)
REGULATIONS 2002
Regulation 39(1), in conjunction with Diagram 605.2 of the
Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 1994 (The
TSRGD) currently prescribes the size, colour and type of sign
which, in accordance with section 28 of the Road Traffic
Regulation Act 1984, a school crossing patrol may exhibit so as
to require traffic to stop when approaching a place where a
person is crossing or seeking to cross a road. These
Regulations, which are reserved, are currently being revised
and a new version is expected later in the year. Legal advice
is that the school crossing patrol sign is not a road sign and
as such, will not be included in the revised TSRGD.
Accordingly, new regulations which will be required when the
current TSRGD is revoked and the purpose of this letter
is to seek your views on these enclosed draft
regulations.
You are invited to send your comments on these draft
regulations to me at the above address no later than 31
October. While I appreciate this only allows little more than
six weeks for a response, your co-operation in meeting this
deadline would be appreciated. It will be assumed that you are
content with the draft as it stands if we receive no response
to this letter.
Yours faithfully
IAIN GARDINER
