D.7 For Edinburgh, East and Midlothian are much more dependent on the city for shopping than West Lothian.

D.8 The majority of Dundee, Angus and North Fife postcode sectors have more than 20% of shopping trips to Dundee.

Figure D5 - Shopping Trips to Aberdeen

D.9 The influence of the main radial roads from Aberdeen is important in affecting the percentage of shopping trips to the city. The map suggests that people in the Fraserburgh area choose to travel to Aberdeen in greater numbers than those from the Peterhead area even though Fraserburgh is about 60km from the city.

D.10 However the SHS travel diary data does not differentiate between travel for different types of shopping. The data are therefore heavily influenced by local food shopping trips where the cities play a less significant role. It is therefore helpful to look at accessibility throughout Scotland to comparison shopping.
