CITY REGION BOUNDARIES STUDY

C.3 It is interesting that only North Queensferry and South Inverkeithing postcode sectors in Fife have more than 10% of work trips to Edinburgh. Similarly in the south the 10% TTWA does not extend to either Peebles or Biggar. In the west, Livingston is at the limit of the 10% zone and in the east the 10% limit is at North Berwick.

C.4 For Dundee, no postcode sectors are in the 10 to 15% band with a tight band of postcode sectors around Dundee having more than 15% of people working in the city.

C.5 The Dundee TTWA only covers two postcode sectors in North Fife covering the Newport and Tayport area.

C.6 The spread of the Aberdeen TTWA area is large, suggesting that the city is very important for the economy of large parts of Aberdeenshire. In the west, the 10% TTWA extends to Aboyne, a distance of over 50km from Aberdeen. In the south, the 10% zone extends nearly to Montrose and in the North New Deer is again nearly 40km from Aberdeen.

C.7 The SHS identifies that professional and managerial people travel further than people in unskilled or partly skilled occupations. However, even for professionals and managers, the upper decile trip length is just under 30km (SE 2002). The large number of postcode sectors more than 30km from Aberdeen with more than 10% of TTW trips is therefore significant.
