CITY REGION BOUNDARIES STUDY

Demand data

B.7 Output flow matrices from the Central Scotland Transport Model (as provided to local authorities to assist with their transport planning from demand model version 3-2) show modelled peak and off peak traffic flows between Council areas in Scotland for car and public transport. The off peak car traffic flows to and from the Glasgow and Edinburgh areas have been extracted for 2001. Off peak flows have been used, since travel to work areas are considered separately, and most peak hour travel is commuting.

B.8 Figures B4 and B5 show the distribution of traffic flows from Glasgow and Edinburgh. It should be emphasised that these are figures extracted from the transport model and are therefore only as accurate as the transport model calibration. The model was calibrated to be robust for traffic demand prediction on the major motorways and trunk roads in central Scotland so may not provide robust flows from Councils with relatively low levels of traffic to the cities e.g. Dumfries and Galloway.
