The Age Participation index (API) is used to measure the number of Scots who entered higher education anywhere in the UK for the first time. It is calculated as the number of young Scots (aged under 21) who enter higher education as a percentage of the population in Scotland aged 17. The API above is therefore measured on a different basis to the participation rates elsewhere in this news release.
