Scotland's Native Trees and Shrubs

What are the hallmarks of a good nursery producing native stock?

When suppliers were nurserymen and grew the plants they sold, their reputation was based primarily on their horticultural expertise. Now, whether growers or brokers, large or small, operating an efficient internal quality management system must now be added to horticultural expertise.

Large nurseries with many staff may find that formal accreditation such as BS EN ISO 9000 Quality Management series and BS EN ISO 14000 Environmental Management are appropriate. Small nurseries with few staff can operate a relatively informal system efficiently. Either way the nursery should be able to provide credible evidence in relation to traceability of stock from seed collection to the point of sale.
