1. Table includes estimates for 6 of the 32 local authorities (covering 16 per cent of the population aged 0-17) as they were unable to supply information.
2. Some totals do not exactly equal the sum of their component parts due to the effects of rounding.
3. The short term placements shown here are used by local authorities to provide respite to children and families where this can help to avoid the need for a child to become looked after full time. The use of short term placements is not restricted to disability respite.
4. Figures shown in this table are additional to those shown in tables 1 to 8.
