  1. Period of time since which land has lain vacant or derelict

6.1 Where the length of time for which land had lain unused was known, 24 per cent (1,672 hectares) of urban vacant and derelict land and 40 per cent (1,118 hectares) of rural derelict land had been unused since before 1981 (Table 10 and Table 11). Table 12 identifies urban vacant and derelict sites separately, for land that has been unused since before 1985. For Scotland as a whole, this shows little difference between the percentage of urban vacant land that has been unused since before 1985 (46 per cent), and urban derelict land (45 per cent).
