Scottish Ambulance Service member re-appointments

09/10/2012

Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing today announced the re-appointment of two members to the Scottish Ambulance Service.

The Scottish Ambulance Service is the frontline of the NHS in Scotland. They provide an emergency ambulance service to a population of over 5 million people serving all of the nation’s mainland and island communities.

Theresa Houston – brings to the board a broad business background in both public and private sectors – most recently as Chief Executive of Scotland The Brand, a specialist marketing organisation set up to promote Scottish products and services at home and overseas. Theresa was previously with Scotrail, heading up customer services and a number of strategic change management initiatives. Theresa is now retired and living in Fife.

David Alexander – brings to the board 25 years of experience within local government, six years of which was spent as leader of Falkirk Council. David was a member of the then Shadow Cabinet from 2004 – 2007 and SNP Spokesperson for Local Government from 2007 – 2009.

These re-appointments will be for four years. The reappointment for Theresa Houston will run from October 1, 2012 to September 30, 2016. The reappointment for David Alexander will run from December 1, 2012 to November 30, 2016.

These re-appointments are part-time and attract a remuneration of £8,008 for a time commitment of eight hours per week.

Theresa Houston is a member of NHS Education for Scotland for which she receives a remuneration of £8,008. David Alexander does not hold any other ministerial appointments.

These re-appointments are regulated by the Public Appointments Commissioner for Scotland.

All re-appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the re-appointment process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.  David Alexander has obtained office as Local Councillor for Scottish National Party and is currently Organiser at Falkirk West SNP Constituency Association and Treasurer of Falkirk SNP Liaison Committee. Theresa Houston has had no political activity in the last five years.
