Breastfeeding Statistics for 2011-12 have been published by ISD Scotland today.
Minister for Public Health Michael Matheson said:
"Breastfeeding has major health benefits, both in the short and longer term for both mother and baby, and that is why the Scottish Government continues to promote it as the normal nutrition for babies throughout Scotland.
"Although breastfeeding rates in Scotland have remained relatively static in the last decade, it is encouraging to see that the rates in the most deprived areas in Scotland have increased over the last decade. We want to work with the NHS to ensure that they are available during the antenatal period for those women least likely to consider breastfeeding and most in need of encouragement and support."
