06/08/2012
Minister for Community Safety and Legal Affairs Roseanna Cunningham today announced the reappointment of Aileen Devanny as President of the Private Rented Housing Panel / Homeowner Housing Panel.
Ms Devanny was first appointed as President of the Panel in May 2010. The reappointment runs from 1 August 2012 until 31 July 2017. On 1 October 2012 the jurisdiction of the panel will be extended due to the implementation of the Property Factors (Scotland) Act 2011. The reappointment of the President ensures that the newly constituted panel has consistent leadership.
Welcoming the reappointment, Ms Cunningham said:
“The Private Rented Housing Panel carries out an important role improving conditions for tenants and will now help resolve disputes between homeowners and property factors as the Homeowner Housing Panel.
“I am pleased to confirm this reappointment. The skills and experience which Ms Devanny brings to the Panel are a great asset, and I am delighted that she has agreed to accept appointment as President."
A former law lecturer and external adviser to the Open University Validation Panel, Ms Devanny has worked in the public sector in various posts since 1982 and was the Principal Solicitor in the Property and Commercial section in North Lanarkshire Council. She has taken on decision making roles in various tribunals, is a tutor in judicial competencies and has experience as a legal adviser in judicial proceedings.
