Fife regional college lead confirmed
05/07/2012
Education Secretary Michael Russell has confirmed that Tony Jakimciw has been invited to lead regional college planning in Fife.
Mr Jakimciw, currently Principal of Dumfries and Galloway College, will work with the Fife colleges and other interested parties to ensure college courses in the region best meet the needs of learners and local employers.
Mr Russell said:
“In the nine months since I announced plans for college regionalisation a great deal of progress has been made. In Fife, this has seen the agreement that colleges will work towards a merger and a single college in Fife.
“As in all areas, regional planning needs a leader with sound experience, a proven track record and working knowledge of the college sector. I am pleased to announce that Tony Jakimciw has agreed to lead this important work in Fife.
“I believe Tony will help lead the colleges in Fife towards a new regional college that best meets the needs of students and employers in the region.”
Mr Jakimciw said:
“I was delighted to accept the invitation the Cabinet Secretary extended to me. This opportunity represents a fresh challenge, in a sector I know has enormous potential to help drive Scotland forward. I very much look forward to playing my part, alongside the partners in Fife, to make that happen.”
