Cabinet Secretary for Health, Wellbeing and Cities Strategy, Nicola Sturgeon, today announced the appointment of a new Chair to Forth Valley NHS Board.

The new chair is:

Alex Linkston – a former Chief Executive of West Lothian Council.  He is very focused on customer service and under his leadership the Council won many awards for excellent customer service.  He was awarded the Quality Scotland’s Leadership Award in 2007. In 2008 he was awarded a CBE and in 2009 he was the Prince’s Trust Scottish Volunteer of the Year. He is currently Chair of Youth Link Scotland, Vice Chair of West Lothian College and a member of the Scottish Council of the Prince’s Trust. Alex brings to the Board a vast amount of public and voluntary sector experience to this post and a focus on customer service.

This appointment will be for four years and will run from March 1, 2012 to February 29, 2016.

This post is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £29,640 for a time commitment of three days per week.

Alex does not hold any other ministerial appointments.

NHS Forth Valley is responsible for meeting the health needs of around 300,000 people living in Forth Valley, and provides a comprehensive range of primary, community-based and acute hospital services for populations covering a geographic area from Killin and Tyndrum in the North, Strathblane in the West, Bo’ness in the East and Falkirk in the South.  It employs around 6000 staff from a wide range of professional and support occupations. 

This Ministerial public appointment was made in accordance with the code of practice published by the Public Appointments Commissioner for Scotland.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.  Alex Linkston has had no political activity within the last five years.
