New Year Honours

The New Year Honours list for 2012 includes recognition for a number of prominent Scots.

Among those in Scotland to receive a CBE are:

  • Tahir Mahmood, for services to women's health
  • James Holloway, Director, The Scottish National Portrait Gallery, for services to the arts
  • Ronald Shade Hamilton, Chair, Daysoft Ltd, for services to the contact lens industry
  • Ronnie Corbett, actor and comedian, for services to entertainment and to charity
  • Seamus McDaid, Principal and Vice-Chancellor, University of the West of Scotland, for services to higher education

Recipients of the OBE include:

  • Lorraine Kelly, for services to charity and the Armed Forces
  • Charlie Miller, proprietor, Charlie Miller Hairdressing Ltd, for services to the hairdressing industry
  • Gordon Mackinlay, President of the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons, for services to paediatric surgery
  • Murray Grigor, film-maker, for services to architecture and to the film industry
  • Robin Hodge, publisher, The List, for services to arts and culture

Among those receiving an MBE are:

  • Chris Paterson, Scottish international, for services to Scottish rugby
  • Corinna Penrose, former Commissioner, Mental Welfare Commission, for services to mental health in Scotland
  • Donald Mackay, for services to the Harris Tweed industry
  • Betty Bennett, for charitable services in Scotland
