First Minister Alex Salmond today congratulated Stewart Clink, winner of the Open golf championship at Turnberry.
Mr Salmond, who attended two days of the tournament, said:
"My congratulations go to Stewart Cink, who battled through to win a famous Open championship.
"Tom Watson came within inches of achieving the greatest victory in the history of sport, weeks away from his 60th birthday. He is an inspiration to everyone, and one of the finest players ever to grace Scotland's courses.
"Turnberry looked majestic, and was a tremendous advert for the best of Scotland and Scottish golf. The championship committee are to be congratulated for presenting such a wonderful course for the finest players in the world compete on."
