Local Authorities: Provisional Outturn 2008-09 and Budget Estimates 2009-10

Scotland's Chief Statistician today published Provisional Outturn 2008-09 and Budget Estimates 2009-10 statistics.
The publication provides Net Revenue Expenditure figures for all the main services carried out by Scotland's Local Authorities. The key points are:
- In 2008-09 Scotland's Local Authorities (provisional outturn) total Net Revenue Expenditure was £12.431 billion. Of this figure, £4.678 billion was on Education, £2.703 billion was on Social Work services and £1.103 billion was on Police services
- Education represented 38 per cent of all Local Authorities' (provisional outturn) Net Revenue Expenditure for 2008-09, with Social Work services accounting for 22 per cent and Police services 9 per cent
- For 2009-10 Scotland's Local Authorities have set a Net Revenue Expenditure Budget Estimate of £12.848 billion for spending on all services. Of this total, £4.798 billion is for Education, £2.776 billion is for Social Work services and £1.129 billion is for Police services
- The Budget Estimate for Education represents 37 per cent of all Local Authorities' Net Revenue Expenditure for 2009-10, with Social Work services accounting for 22 per cent and Police services 9 per cent
