GP Access 2008-09
30/06/2009
Scotland's Chief Statistician today published the report GP Access Survey: Results and Methodology.
The GP Access Survey asked GP patients whether they had been able to:
- obtain a consultation with an appropriate healthcare professional within two working days (48 hour access)
- book an appointment with a GP in advance (advance access)
This report follows the web publication, on May 19, of the key results for Scotland, NHS Board and GP Practice. This report includes more detailed analysis by patient characteristics and GP Practice. The report also includes methodological information.
The main findings are:
- 90 per cent of patients across Scotland were able to obtain 48 hour access. Two-thirds of GP practices had more than 90 per cent of patients able to obtain 48 hour access
- 75 per cent of patients were able to obtain advance access. 40 per cent of GP practices had more than 90 per cent of patients able to to obtain advance access
- Results for smaller practices were more positive than for larger practices. Patients who reside in rural areas reported better access than those in other parts of Scotland
- The report shows results by characteristics of patients answering the survey, including gender, age, reported disability and ethnicity
- Methodological information and response rate analysis are also included in this publication
