Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing Nicola Sturgeon today announced an extension to the appointment of Gordon Craig as Chair of the State Hospitals Board for Scotland.

Mr Craig is former Depute Director Personnel, Glasgow City Council 1987-1995 and a former Trustee of the South Glasgow University Hospital's Trust from 1999 to 2001. He is aged 61, married with two sons and lives in Glasgow. Mr Craig is an active member of the Labour Party.
This appointment extension will be for a period of 18 months from 1 October 2009 to 31 March 2011.
This post is part-time with a time commitment of 3 days per week for which the annual remuneration is £24,648.
The State Hospitals Board for Scotland is a national resource which provides assessment, treatment and care in conditions of special security for individuals with mental disorder who, because of their dangerous, violent or criminal propensities, cannot be cared for in any other setting.
This appointment extension was made in accordance with Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland (OCPAS) Code of Practice.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Within the last five years, Mr Craig has spoken on behalf of a party or candidate, held office such as Chair, Treasurer or Secretary of a local Branch of a party and canvassed on behalf of the Labour Party.
